    Born: March 19, 1927 in Fall River, Mass.
    Died: November 10, 2003 in Bismarck, age 76.
    High School: Graduated from Warren (R.I.) High School, 1945.

    Higgins began broadcasting in 1956. He was sports director at KXMB in Bismarck from 1957-59. He joined Meyer Broadcasting in 1959, doing his first play-by-play broadcast in 1961 and was the KFYR radio and television sports director from 1964 through 1989, after which he broadcast University of Mary sports for several years on KLXX radio. He was recipient of the state sportscaster of the year award in 1971 and 1975. He served in the U.S. Army following his high school graduation, after which he spent nine years playing professional baseball, a career that brought him to Bismarck. Higgins had more than 150 wins in his minor-league pitching career. He coached the 1961 Bismarck American Legion state baseball championship team. He's a member of the North Dakota American Legion Baseball and University of Mary halls of fame.
