    Born: September 8, 1923 in Minot.
    Died: April 21, 2011 in Fargo, age 87.
    High School: Graduated from Velva (N.D.) High School, 1940.
    College: Graduated from University of North Dakota, 1948.

    Schalow began his journalism career at the Velva Journal before accepting a position at the Minot Daily News in 1958. He continued at the Daily News until his retirement in 1985. Schalow was a four-time winner of the state sportswriter of the year award (1963, 1966, 1968, 1972). He wrote two books, "North Dakota High School Boys Basketball History'' and "Magic City Sports Quiz.'' He's been inducted into several halls of fame, including the North Dakota Men's Bowling Association, Minot State University Athletics, Minot High School Athletics and Minot Baseball. Schalow served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific War Zone.
