    Born: November 7, 1954 in Jamestown, N.D.
    High School: Graduated from Kensal (N.D.) High School, 1973.
    College: Graduated from University of North Dakota, 1978.

    DeVillers was hired at the Grand Forks Herald on Sept. 4, 1975. He spent his entire 45-year career at the Herald, retiring on Sept. 5, 2020. DeVillers was seven-time recipient of the North Dakota sportswriter of the year award (1990, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2020), more than any other writer in the state. DeVillers wrote news stories during the Herald's coverage of the 1997 Red River flood, helping the paper win the Pulitzer Prize that year. He has a collection of more than 650 sports-related books and magazines.
