    Born: March 27, 1899 in Fargo.
    Died: November 4, 1974 in Fargo, age 75.
    College: North Dakota State University.

    Fitzgerald joined the Fargo Forum staff in May 1926 and was named the newspaper's sports editor in 1930. He held that post until 1964. He retired in 1969. He was a charter member of the North Dakota State University athletic hall of fame and also is a member of the North Central Conference and North Dakota American Legion baseball halls. Fitzgerald was the winner of the first North Dakota sportswriter of the year award, in 1959. He received the NDSU Alumni Achievement Award in 1965. He covered 17 World Series during his career. One of his major interests was hunting. Fitzgerald was part of the Forum staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of a tornado that hit Fargo in 1957.
