    Born: October 11, 1924 in Gilman, Wis.
    Died: October 25, 1993 in Fargo, age 69.
    High School: Graduated from Gilman High School, 1942.
    College: Graduated from University of Minnesota, 1949.

    Kolpack spent his entire career at the Forum in Fargo. He joined the newspaper in 1949, fresh out of college. After a stint in the military during the Korean War, Kolpack returned to the Forum and joined the paper's sports staff. He became Forum sports editor in 1964, a position he held until 1988. Kolpack retired in 1990. He was named the state's sportswriter of the year in 1967. Kolpack was part of the Forum staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of a tornado that hit Fargo in 1957. He wrote a book, "Bison Football -- Three Decades of Excellence.'' He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as well as in the Korean War. Kolpack is a member of the North Central Conference and North Dakota State University athletic halls of fame.
