Born: January 31, 1960 in Fargo.
High School: Graduated from Fargo South High School, 1978.
College: Graduated from University of North Dakota, 1982.

After writing for the Fargo Forum while attending UND, Kolpack worked at a newspaper in Watertown, S.D., fresh out of college. He joined the Bismarck Tribune sports staff in 1984, then moved to the Forum in 1989. Kolpack took a position at The Associated Press in 2002. Kolpack was the first five-time winner of the North Dakota sportswriter of the year award (1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994). He was the first fulltime sports columnist at the Forum. Kolpack has won two national story of the month awards at The Associated Press. He is the son of fellow NDAPSSA hall of famer Ed Kolpack.
