    Born: January 29, 1948 in Bielawa, Poland.
    High School: Graduated from Weyburn (Saskatchewan) Collegiate Institute, 1966.
    College: Graduated from UND-Williston, 1969; University of North Dakota, 2009.

    Winter is the only foreign-born member of the NDAPSSA Hall of Fame. He worked at the Grand Forks Herald from 1970-79, then moved to Bismarck to become sports editor of the Bismarck Tribune. He remained at the Tribune until 1997. He's since worked in journalism in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Florida and Montana. Winter was named North Dakota sportswriter of the year in 1974, 1979, 1981 and 1996. He wrote a book, "Memoirs of an Unknown Sportswriter (Except in North Dakota).''
