Wayne Nelson
Born: August 24, 1954 in Grand Forks.
High School: Graduated from Oslo (Minn.) High School, 1972.
College: Graduated from University of North Dakota, 1976.
Nelson had stops at newspapers in Valley City (1976-1980) and Jamestown (1980-1995) before joining the Grand Forks Herald in 1995. He's a five-time winner of the state sportswriter of the year award (1986, 1988, 1998, 2001, 2009). Nelson wrote news stories during the Herald's coverage of the 1997 Red River flood, helping the paper win the Pulitzer Prize that year. One of the state's premier auto racing writers, Nelson is a member of the Grand Forks River Cities Speedway Hall of Fame.
